Golden Gate Urology was founded by a small group of visionary urologists who sought to bring together multiple specialists to offer comprehensive care to urology patients. They understood that true excellence comes from both specialization and a commitment to integrated patient care. Over three years, this initial group of physicians expanded, focusing on establishing a dedicated prostate cancer center and pathology lab—an unprecedented achievement in the region. Experts from across the country collaborated to secure the best equipment and expertise, all with the goal of delivering exceptional care to their patients.

Several challenges had to be overcome in establishing a convenient cancer center location for patients from the East Bay, San Francisco, Marin, and the Peninsula. Finding a suitable site was particularly difficult, as the equipment requirements included 30-foot ceilings and ground-level access. San Francisco’s restrictive medical zoning laws further limited available options. Eventually, a prime ground-floor space was secured at 139 Townsend Street, in a building constructed shortly after the 1906 earthquake. The location, near MUNI and BART and across from Oracle Park, offered excellent accessibility and opened in 2010. In 2020, the Townsend office relocated to 1661 Mission Street
